Walter Hays Community Letter - 8/6/2020

Dear Walter Hays Families,

Welcome to the 2020-21 School Year! Our Walter Hays teachers and front office staff have been planning and organizing for classes to begin Monday, August 17. Of course, it is not the typical way we launch the school year, but our focus has been how to deliver quality instruction, while keeping our students and staff safe and healthy. Rest assured this effort will continue throughout the school year. I will be sending you weekly updates of school and district information, on Wednesday evenings in addition to information that PAUSD Superintendent Don Austin will send each Friday.

Coffee with Principal Mary

Student Supplies Distribution

We want to make sure all students are supported with the supplies they need for their daily instruction. Each student will be supplied with a 'Bankers Box' (a cube shaped box) to hold books, materials and supplies that we will distribute by grade level with the following schedule:

Thursday, August 13:

  • Kindergarten: 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
  • 1st Grade: 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 Noon
  • 2nd Grade: 12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Friday, August 14:

  • 3rd Grade: 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
  • 4th Grade: 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 Noon
  • 5th Grade: 12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Please wear face masks.

When you arrive at school, pull forward in our driveway circle working with the staff:

  1. Giving Your Child's Last Name
  2. Pop your car trunk where the staff will place the student box.
  3. Please remain in your car.

If this date and/or time is problematic, please contact School Secretary Ruta Henard, rhenard@pausd.org or School Clerk Gina Filter, gfilter@pausd.org to schedule an alternative date and time.

The Student Bankers Box is intended as a place to keep each child's school supplies, textbooks and literature books organized so they are prepared to effectively participate in their scheduled classroom synchronous and asynchronous instructional blocks. This box will also give students practice taking Responsibility, our September Core Value! Students are also welcome to decorate their box.

Tech Device Survey: Please Complete by Friday, August 7

Last March, when our district went into Distance Learning students had the option to take a

I-Pad or Computer home so they could link into class instruction. The district needs timely information about the devices that were distributed to you.

  • Class Zoom, information to follow.

The PTA and I will be sending out additional information Monday, August 10.
