Walter Hays Community Letter - 11/19/2020
Dear Walter Hays Community 🍁,
I can just imagine how excited everyone is to begin our Thanksgiving Week break which begins tomorrow, Friday, November 20 at 1:50 p.m.
Bay Area Counties Joint Holiday and Travel Recommendations:
We know everyone wants to have a safe and healthy holiday and ask you to please read the following recommendations prior to this Thanksgiving week. We ask you to consider quarantining after traveling, with an medically excused absence and getting a Covid 19 test 7 days after returning. Yours, as well as all of our students', staff's and families' health is of upmost importance to us. Thank you all for considering these health and safety measures.
Here is the link to the joint recommendations for staying safe during the holidays. Their recommendations cover gatherings and travel, with recommended steps to reduce risk including:
- Keeping gatherings small, short, stable, and outdoors
- Choosing not to travel if Nonessential
- For those who are traveling outside the Bay Area, tips are provided to help avoid catching COVID-19 or spreading it to fellow travelers
- A 14-day self-quarantine is strongly recommended after a return from traveling, if your activities while traveling put you at higher risk of COVID-19
Hybrid and Full Distance Learning Parent Information
Teachers are working live in classrooms either Hybrid or Full Distance Learning each day of the week from 8:25/8:30 a.m. - 1:50/2:35 p.m.
Unfortunately, during these instructional times teachers are not available to answer phone calls, text messages or emails, since they are live with your children.
Sometimes you may be experiencing technical issues. I sent out links at the beginning of the school year and have listed them here to help you navigate your child's school tech applications:
Student Tech Application Links:
Recording of Zoom Session: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNlV922oBTU&ab_channel=EmilyGarrison
The Schoology platform:
After reviewing these links, if you are still experiencing issues, please call the school office and we will do our best to answer your questions. Teachers can answer your emails within 24 hours or if you have sent a weekend email, at the beginning of a new week.
If your child is absent, please have them rest and get well. If they are a Hybrid student they will receive information about the work they missed upon returning to school, just as they would in typical times.
Grateful for the Walter Hays PTA!
Thank you to our wonderful PTA and Events Team for providing a delicious Mendocino Farms lunch for our staff. There were many treats, as well as wonderfully rich sandwiches. Thank you terrific PTA volunteers, we are so grateful for your partnership and support of our entire staff!
🦃 Thanksgiving Holiday Week 🍁 begins at the end of school day tomorrow Friday, November 20.
